The Blouse

BRIGITTE is a relaxed, feminine blouse with a straight silhouette, an elasticized ruffled neckline, softly flared two-part sleeves, and small side slits. Inspired by the ease of 1960s fashion, it leaves room for your own choice of fabric and finish.

The neckline is designed to rest naturally on the shoulders; depending on your body, selected size, and elastic adjustment, it may sit slightly off the shoulder. A soft woven cotton gives BRIGITTE a more fluid look, while a firmer cotton brings more structure and a fuller neckline ruffle.

Nina’s blouse is sewn from poppy-print cotton poplin from EvLis Needle.

EU 32–50 / US 0–18 / UK 4–22 · Confident beginner · Digital PDF sewing pattern

Each BRIGITTE pattern PDF contains English and German in the same file: A4, US Letter, A0, US Copyshop, and Projector. The download includes both languages; no language edition needs to be selected before checkout. No finished garment, printed pattern, or physical materials will be shipped.

Measurements & details

US and UK size designations are approximate international equivalents. Use the BRIGITTE body and finished garment measurement charts as the basis for choosing a size.

BRIGITTE is relaxed by design. Wearing and design ease are already built into the pattern; do not add a second standard ease allowance when comparing the body and finished-garment charts. The pattern is drafted for a height of 168 cm / approximately 5 ft 6 1/8 in. Before cutting, compare the finished blouse and sleeve lengths with a garment you like, and check the upper arm and the sleeve circumference where the flared section begins.

Compare the Finished Garment Measurements before choosing your size. Consider the fullness you want through the body, the room you need in the sleeves, and your preferred blouse and sleeve lengths. Compare with your own measurements and, if helpful, a blouse whose fit you like.

On Nina

Model: Nina Wetzmüller wears EU 36 / US 4 / UK 8.

Her measurements: bust 90 cm (approx. 35 7/16 in), waist 66 cm (approx. 26 in), hips 92 cm (approx. 36 1/4 in), and upper arm 27 cm (approx. 10 5/8 in). Her height is 175 cm (approx. 5 ft 8 7/8 in).

The finished blouse in this size measures 132 cm (approx. 51 15/16 in) around the bust, waist, and hip/hem. Compare the finished garment measurements with your own measurements and the fullness you prefer. Also check the upper arm, sleeve circumference at the flared-sleeve seam, and finished lengths.

Fabric & supplies

Woven cotton is the recommended starting point. Choose the weight, drape, and opacity that suit the finish you want. Lighter cottons can be sheer.

For EU 50 / US 18 / UK 22, choose 55 1/8 in (140 cm) or 60 in (152.4 cm) fabric; 45 in (114.3 cm) width is not suitable. Consult the size-specific fabric chart before buying. Allow extra for shrinkage, directional prints, pattern matching, or alterations, and check the actual usable width.

Supplies

  • Matching all-purpose thread
  • Soft neckline elastic, approximately 9/16 in / 15 mm wide: buy at least 1 1/8 yd / 1 m, then adjust at the fitting

Sewing tools

A machine with straight and zigzag stitches is sufficient; a serger is optional.

The illustrated crossgrain layout for the flared sleeve is suitable only for stable, non-directional plain-weave fabrics with similar lengthwise and crosswise behavior. Follow the detailed fabric guidance in the sewing instructions; otherwise preserve the original grainline and allow for potentially more fabric.

Printing & PDF layers

Print scale & control square

Choose the file for A4, US Letter, A0, US Copyshop, or projector use. Print at actual size, 100% — do not fit to the page.

  • US Letter: 4 × 4 in control square (10.16 × 10.16 cm).
  • A4: 10 × 10 cm control square.

Print and measure the control square for the chosen format before printing the full pattern.

PDF layers

In each bilingual BRIGITTE pattern PDF, choose your language, With Seam Allowance or Without Seam Allowance, and one or more sizes from EU 32–50 / US 0–18 / UK 4–22. Within the selected seam-allowance branch, each size can be shown or hidden independently. The language choice switches the pattern-piece wording and the language-dependent information; the pattern geometry stays the same.

All required pattern pieces, wording, and markings are included in your selection.

The pattern PDF opens in English, with seam allowance and all sizes. RESET TO START VIEW restores this view and returns to page one, including after you have used German. Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer is recommended for language and layer selection.

Use only one seam-allowance option at a time. For the option without allowances, add the seam and hem allowances stated in the Sewing Instructions before cutting. Check print scale or projector calibration before cutting.
