How to Measure

For size selection, compare body measurements with the size chart for the chosen sewing pattern. The following guide explains how to measure the bust, waist, hips, and upper arm.

Front-view body measurement diagram showing bust, waist, and hip measuring positions.
Measure around the fullest bust, natural waist, and fullest hip. Keep the tape level and comfortably close.
  • Bust: Measure horizontally around the fullest part of your bust and across your back.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waist at the narrowest part of your torso.
  • Hip: Measure horizontally around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  • Upper arm: Measure around the fullest part of each upper arm with the arm relaxed; use the larger measurement.

Stand naturally in close-fitting underwear or fitted clothing. Keep the tape level and comfortably close without pulling it tight.

The product page and accompanying sewing instructions specify the measurements needed for each style. Finished garment measurements also help assess the intended ease and fit.
